The political strategist who helped Boris Johnson and the Conservatives to a series of election victories has warned that Northern ‘red wall’ voters who backed the PM in 2019 would soon expect evidence their faith in him would be repaid with results.
In a rare interview Sir Lynton Crosby said Mr Johnson, who he helped to victory in successive London mayoral elections in 2008 and 2012, was “genuinely committed” to the idea of ‘levelling up’ despite fears the idea was no more than election-winning slogan.
